About Trident Capital Group

Private capital,
institutional discipline.

A boutique investment and funds management group. We manage our investors' money like it's our own — and we spend more time on what could go wrong than on what could go right.

Trident began as an accounting practice. Chin, Haydn and Jenny founded Trident Financial Group in 2017, advising business owners and high-net-worth families on tax and structuring — work that teaches you quickly what actually creates wealth. In 2020 we bought our own office in Surrey Hills. Our clients, watching us do it, asked whether they could come along on the next one. Trident Capital Group exists because they did. Six years on, we've acquired close to $100 million across five office and retail assets, all still held.

Our accounting roots shape how we operate. Compliance and regulation are our trade, not a function we outsourced. They also give us something less common: we don't need to transact. Our income doesn't depend on management fees, so we can wait for the right asset. In 2023, with rates rising and buyers nervous, we bought a metropolitan Coles supermarket — an asset class that rarely comes to market at all.

How we invest
Our values

Four things we don't compromise on.

01

Discipline

We say no more than we say yes.

Most of what we review, we decline. Every acquisition passes through technical, legal and financial due diligence before we commit, and we model conservatively — testing what happens if the tenant leaves, rates move, or the exit takes longer than planned. If a deal only works in the good case, it isn't a deal.

02

Capital Preservation

Protect the downside. The upside looks after itself.

We spend more time on what could go wrong than on what could go right. Conservative gearing, income underwritten by tenants who can pay through a cycle, and a reserve for the years that don't go to plan. Property is a long game, and the objective is to still be holding when it turns.

03

Governance

The rules come before the deal.

We operate under an AFSL, and our regulatory obligations come before anything commercial. An independently appointed Responsible Manager oversees those obligations, supported by a Chief Risk Officer and a Compliance Committee. Our compliance program and AML/CTF procedures apply to every investor, without exception.

04

Integrity

We tell you what we'd want told to us.

Our assumptions are disclosed, our fees are set out in full, and our forecasts show the downside case alongside the upside. When something changes in an asset, you hear it from us early. We'd rather lose an investor to an honest answer than keep one on an optimistic one.
